FAQ
When using my mobile phone do I press the send key after dialling the destination?
No. By pressing 'send' after the destination your call will be sent through the mobile network. Simply dial the access number, wait for the prompt, dial the destination number and Smalltalk will connect you to your destination. This also means that you cannot use the phonebook on your mobile if you are making a call through the Smalltalk network.

Can I still save money on phone calls using a mobile phone?
Yes, especially with free minute packages you will save money when calling most 08 numbers. Even with mobile surcharges, it is usually cheaper to call internationally from a mobile using Smalltalk when calling 08 numbers. You should however always check with your service provider to find out what the applicable call charges are.

Is the rate charged to call the access number always the same?
No, the rates shown are BT standard rates for calls from BT residential lines. Please check with other service providers, including mobiles and payphones for their call charges when using Smalltalk access numbers. If calling from a business line, BT or otherwise, check the tariff plan that the business is on to establish the relevant charges.

Can Smalltalk be used for local calls?
No.

How does Smalltalk actually work
Certain access numbers are configured to accept calls to certain destinations by the Smalltalk switch. When you dial the relevant access number the first leg of your call terminates on the Smalltalk switch, which then validates that the destination number you wish to call is permitted on the access number you have dialled, and allows you to dial out to the destination you wish to call. There may be a very short delay between dialling the access number and dialling your international number.
How to make a call 1. Dial the applicable access number for the country you wish to call (see A-Z destination, tariff and number finder).

2. At the prompt dial the international destination number in full (including 00).

3. That’s it, you are connected.

Calls billed at relevant rates by service provider - no other charges apply.
